TSMIT increase and 1 July 2023 changes
The Department has provided additional clarification concerning the increase in the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) from $53,900 to $70,000, effective from 1 July.
During the transitional period to the new TSMIT, it will be treated as a time of application criteria. This means that nominations submitted prior to 1 July will not be affected by the TSMIT increase, even if the decision on the nomination is made after 1 July. Similarly, visa applications lodged after 1 July, associated with a nomination that was approved prior to 1 July, will not be subject to the TSMIT increase.
Under the 482 visa program, sponsors are required to demonstrate not only that the salary exceeds the TSMIT but also that the sponsored employee will receive a market salary rate.
