On December 7, 2024, changes were made to the work experience requirements for the 482 Visa. Previously, applicants were required to have two years of full-time relevant work experience, or the equivalent in part-time experience. Under the new rules, this requirement was reduced to one year of full-time or equivalent part-time or casual relevant work experience within the five years preceding the visa application. The work experience must be completed by the time the application is lodged.
Although the work experience requirement was reduced, applicants must still meet the skill requirements for the nominated occupation, which vary by occupation. Some occupations also require a skills assessment from the relevant skills assessing authority.
Based on the numerous inquiries we’ve received since the change, it seems that many potential applicants and employers are aware of the reduction in the work experience requirement. However, they may not realise that the skill requirement still applies to the 482 visa application.
