The Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) allows citizens from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste to live and work in Australia permanently. The Subclass 192 visa program provides up to 3,000 permanent places annually for individuals from participating countries and Timor-Leste, along with their immediate family members. This program is in addition to Australia's overall permanent migration scheme.

To apply for a Pacific Engagement visa, eligible individuals must first register for the ballot and be randomly selected to receive an invitation to apply.

Eligibility to register in the PEV ballot includes the following requirements:

  • Be aged between 18 and 45 years old at the time the ballot registration period begins for your country.

  • Hold a valid passport issued by one of the participating countries, which include:

    • Federated States of Micronesia

    • Fiji

    • Nauru

    • Palau

    • Papua New Guinea

    • Solomon Islands

    • Timor-Leste

    • Tonga

    • Tuvalu

    • Vanuatu

  • Be born in, or have a parent who was born in:

    • Australia

    • Federated States of Micronesia

    • Fiji

    • Kiribati

    • Nauru

    • Palau

    • Papua New Guinea

    • New Zealand

    • Republic of the Marshall Islands

    • Samoa

    • Solomon Islands

    • Timor-Leste

    • Tonga

    • Tuvalu

  • Not be a citizen of New Zealand.

  • Not already be registered for the same PEV ballot.

  • Pay the ballot registration fee (AUD 25).

Note: Some eligible citizens may have been born outside of their country of citizenship due to medical needs. Australia and New Zealand are included in this list to acknowledge such cases.

You can register for the ballot from anywhere in the world, as long as the registration period is open for your country. You must hold a valid passport to register, and the nationality on your passport will determine the ballot you enter.

Registration for the ballot is allowed only during the open period for your country, and you can only register once per ballot process.

Each participating country will have an annual ballot. If you miss the registration period, and you continue to meet the eligibility requirements, you may be able to register for a future ballot.

Ballot status updates are available on the Department of Home Affairs website. For instance, on February 14, a second round of random ballot selections for the Pacific Engagement Visa was completed for participants from Vanuatu. Selected participants have 120 days from their selection date to submit their visa application online.
