New SC 192 Pacific Engagement visa
The Australian Government has released legislation regarding the new Subclass 192 Pacific Engagement visa, scheduled to commence on March 29, 2024.
The Pacific Engagement visa will provide access to permanent residence in Australia for citizens of a number of Pacific island countries and Timor-Leste. Selection will be randomized through a ballot conducted in accordance with a visa pre-application process for that country. It will provide up to 3,000 permanent places annually for citizens of participating Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste and their immediate family members.
Highlighted features include:
1. Eligibility requires applicants to be aged over 18 and under 45 at the onset of the visa pre-application registration period.
2. During registration, applicants must possess a valid passport issued by a country pertinent to the visa pre-application process.
3. Applicants must not hold citizenship in New Zealand.
4. The primary applicant or a secondary applicant, must hold a written offer for genuine, ongoing employment in Australia.
5. Applicants must have or access adequate means to support themselves and any secondary applicants for the initial 12 months in Australia as visa holders.
