New Postcodes in Disaster Recovery Areas
On 5 April 2025, the Department of Home Affairs updated the list of eligible areas where Subclass 417 Working Holiday and Subclass 462 Work and Holiday Visa holders Working Holiday can undertake specified work to qualify for a second or third Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa.
This update expands the list of postcodes for WHMs engaged in bushfire recovery and other natural disaster recovery work—such as floods, cyclones, and severe weather—in areas recently affected by such events.
The expanded list of eligible areas includes:
New South Wales: Lithgow
Northern Territory: West Arnhem
Tasmania: All areas now included
Victoria: Ararat, Casey, Frankston, Glen Eira, Greater Dandenong, Greater Geelong, Horsham, Kingston, Knox, Monash, Moorabool, and Whitehorse
Western Australia: Bruce Rock, Bunbury, Carnarvon, Coolgardie, Dardanup, Dundas, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Karratha, Laverton, Leonora, Menzies, Ngaanyatjarraku, Northampton, Sandstone, and Wyndham-East Kimberley
This update applies to Working Holiday (subclass 417) and Work and Holiday (subclass 462) visa applications lodged on or after 5 April 2025, as well as to applications submitted before this date that remain undecided.
This change recognises the vital role WHMs play in supporting recovery efforts in communities impacted by natural disasters across Australia.
