Key Changes to Student Visa English Language Requirements

The Department of Home Affairs has introduced updates to the English language requirements for Student Visa applicants. These changes expand the list of eligible pathway programs.

The list of registered courses eligible as pathway programs under the Regulations has been updated and expanded. These programs allow applicants to meet lower English language test scores.

Pathway programs are preparatory courses designed for students who have not yet met the academic entry requirements for their intended undergraduate university degree in Australia. These programs lead to qualifications recognized under the Australian Qualifications Framework and provide academic credit for second-year undergraduate study.

The updated requirements take effect from 3 January 2024.
