In response to the Australian Government's efforts to support the growing demands of the housing construction sector, Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) mad changed in July 2024 to the mandatory requirement of Offshore Skills Assessment Program (OSAP) for certain construction sector occupation. . TRA expanded the eligibility for certain housing construction occupations to access the Migration Skills Assessment (MSA) program.

Applicants who are working in designated construction occupations have the opportunity to have their skills assessed through the MSA program. This offers a more affordable and faster alternative to the OSAP for eligible candidates. The shift aims to address the urgent need for skilled workers in the housing sector while streamlining the process for applicants.

TRA have advised that during the December/January period, approximately 85% of MSA applications for housing construction occupations were completed within just 25 days. This is a marked improvement in processing time compared to the OSAP, making it an appealing choice for applicants looking for a quicker pathway.

By streamlining the skills assessment process and offering a faster route to recognition, the government aims to increase the number of skilled workers available to meet this demand.

Applicants should ensure they meet the eligibility criteria for the MSA program. For further assistance and to understand your eligibility, book a consultation with one of our Registered Migration Agents today.
