Australia extends post-study work rights for international graduates in high-demand fields
The Australian Government plans to extend the post-study work rights for international students who have graduated from an Australian education provider. This initiative aims to address the skills shortage in areas of high demand such as teaching, health, engineering, and agriculture. Eligibility for the extension of post-study work rights will depend on the student's qualifications and occupation, as determined by a list of eligible fields.
Furthermore, the post-study work rights for specific degrees in areas with skill shortages will be extended as follows: • Bachelor degrees: from two years to four years for selected programs • Masters degrees: from three years to five years for selected programs • Doctoral qualifications: from four years to six years for all degrees.
These changes will be implemented on 1 July 2023 and the list of eligible occupations and qualifications will be reviewed annually.
