408 Visa Update

WA State Sponsorship

The Government has announced the following 408 visa update. Changes to the subclass 408 - pandemic event visa, took effect from 2nd September 2023. From this date, the stream is only open to applications from existing Pandemic Event visa holders.

The visa stream will be fully closed by February 2024.

The 408 visa was introduced in 2020 to help businesses and organizations that were struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The visa allowed temporary residents who were already in Australia to stay in the country and continue working or studying

Visa applications lodged before 2nd September 2023 will be considered for 12 months validity and 2 years for Temporary Graduate visa holders.

Applications lodged on or after 2nd September 2023 must hold a Pandemic Event visa that expires in 28 days or less, and applications will be considered for up to a 6-month stay only.

The closure of the 408 visa will have a significant impact on some people and therefore it is important to seek advice regarding other visa options available. Book a consultation with one of our Registered Migration Agents today.
