Resident Return Visas
An RRV (Resident Return Visa) is a type of visa that allows current or former Australian permanent residents to travel outside of Australia and return as permanent residents. Several types of RRVs available, including subclass 155 and 157 visas.
The subclass 155 visa is a five-year RRV allowing current or former Australian permanent residents to travel outside Australia and return as permanent residents. To be eligible for this visa, applicants must have spent two years in the 5 years prior in Australia as a permanent resident and must have a genuine commitment to living in or maintaining a close and continuing association with Australia. Where applicants do not meet the residency requirement, they must demonstrate substantial personal, business, employment or cultural ties to Australia and have a genuine commitment to living in or maintaining a close and continuing association with Australia to be granted a 12-month RRV.
The subclass 157 visa is a three-month RRV that allows current or former Australian permanent residents to travel outside of Australia and return as permanent residents. To be eligible for this visa, applicants must have spent a substantial period in Australia as permanent resident and must have a genuine commitment to living in or maintaining a close and continuing association with Australia.
Overall, RRVs are an important way for current or former Australian permanent residents to maintain their connection to Australia and to return to the country as permanent residents.
