Partner migration is a significant component of Australia's migration program and allows individuals to bring their partner or spouse to live with them in the country. To be eligible for this visa, applicants must be sponsored by their Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, demonstrate they are in a genuine and ongoing relationship with their sponsor and meet certain health and character requirements.

Partner migration is generally two-stage decision process. Initially, a decision is made on a temporary partner visa. Two years after the lodgement of the initial application, further evidence is required to demonstrate that the relationship is still ongoing before a decision is made on permanent residency.
